I found The 100 a rapid and enjoyable read - as a new entry into the Young Adult dystopia genre, this is an adventurous page-turner with plenty of action and even some romance. Before the paperback has even had its UK publication, a TV series is being developed by the people behind The Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl, so I was keen to see what all the buzz was about. The 100 is set to be the next big thing in the world of YA books and TV - I was thrilled to receive one of 100 proofs of the first book in the series to review. The Book Bagįans of The Hunger Games will love this book. From the strictly monitored one-child policy, to a democracy that is crumbling from within, and a distinct class system that is surely just a spark away from causing the entire colony to explode into conflict, there are multiple fascinating issues that appear to have arisen in this post-apocalyptic society. Starburst magazineįast-paced and engaging. packed with powerful and empowered characters. What an unexpected win it was! Joel (the Ariel to my Ursula, I only want him for his voice) delivered a vibrant and engaging performance, portraying a lively clan of characters in a way only he can. I came across this audiobook while searching for Joel Froomkin narrations, and I went into it without any expectations, being my first Highlander romance. The physical tension between the two simmers throughout this book, and they are explosive together, often making me catch my breath. The chemistry and emotional connection between Aulay and Jetta was palpable, investing the reader in this uncommon relationship. The humor in this book was a pleasant surprise and made me love this family even more. I sighed and swooned, I blushed and laughed out loud. I experienced a full spectrum of emotions while listening to this book. While my initial reaction to him was a little lukewarm, he quickly won me over and stole my heart. Aulay was a perfect hero for me, a protective male who also isn’t afraid to be vulnerable. The Highlander’s Promise was an entertaining and lighthearted read, one that held me captive from the very start, and one that continues to have a hold on me even after finishing Aulay and Jetta’s story. I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first Highlander romance, but this book has set the bar way high, so other books in the genre better watch their backs! I am a recent convert to historical romance novels, and The Highlander’s Promise by Lynsay Sands is now ranked among my favorites.
